A different category of group insurance plan available in US is known as health maintenance organizations or HMO. Under this plan, the insured will have to pay a fixed amount every month towards the insurer and is called as premium. The insured will get a variety of benefits from the insurance company as well as the physicians.

You will get a primary physician who will take care of your health care. He will also refer you to other specialists. You will not get chances to demand your physicians. They will be having agreements with your insurance company. Exceptions are allowed under emergency situations. You will have to make the co-payment.

Under the group insurance plans, you will have the choice to go for a fee-for-service coverage plan. This indemnity plan will allow you to select the doctor you want to visit. You will have to pay for the services you obtained from the doctor, at the time of consultation.

You will have to keep the receipts and bills of your medical expenses. You have to keep the prescription drugs and other expenses with you. All expenses have to be tracked by you. This kind of health insurance is not that common in US and some European countries. The presence in some rural areas is better than the cities.

Health care is highly expensive in US. This is the main reason why health insurance plans have become mandatory for all individuals there. There are various coverage’s available at different costs. People have to keep in mind that the benefits available under individual health insurance plans will not be as extensive as those in group insurance. You have to understand what all will be paid by the insurance and what all factors will not come under the coverage. If you don’t have a clear idea about the individual health insurance plans, it is always advisable to seek the help of insurance companies in US.

Among the world nations, US is a country which spends much on health care activities. At the same time, this is the only country with enough wealth and industrialization, yet not following a universal health care plan.

Around 84% of US citizens have some form of health insurance. 60% of the citizens receive this through their employers, while 9% get it through individual means and around 27% depends on government programs for their health insurance. There can be overlap in these proportions when same individual get insurance by more than one means. Apart from this, there is also public funding for health insurance.
